A Dhaka court has placed Lamin Islam, the prime accused in the abduction of a tenth‑grade schoolgirl from Uttara, on a one-day remand.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after hearing a petition on Monday. Earlier, on 2 May, the court had sent Lamin to jail.
Investigation officer Fariduzzaman, sub‑inspector of Uttara East Police Station, produced the accused and sought five days’ remand.
In his petition, he said preliminary evidence showed Lamin’s direct involvement. The incident had created fear among schoolgirls in the area, and remand was needed to identify other fugitives, recover the motorcycle and private car used in the abduction, and uncover the motive.
State counsel Shariful Islam told the court the girl’s abduction in front of her father was traumatic for the victim, and said remand was necessary for the accused.
After hearing both sides, the judge said further investigation was needed to identify others involved but reduced the remand to one day.
Police arrested Lamin on 1 May from Pubail in Gazipur and rescued the victim. According to the case statement, on 22 April, she was abducted at Sector‑6, Uttara East, while returning home with her father after an exam.
Her father filed the abduction case with Uttara East Police Station.
