Miscreants set fire to a school bus in Shibaloy upazila of Manikganj around 1:30am on Friday, leaving the driver critically injured.
The attack took place in the Falsatia area, said Sumon Chakraborty, sub-inspector of Shibaloy Police Station.
The driver, Tabej Khan, 45, was asleep inside the bus when the fire broke out and sustained severe burns.
He added that Tabej was first taken to Manikganj 250-bed General Hospital. After his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. His home is in Baraivikra village of Manikganj Sadar upazila.
Moreover, the bus was used for transporting students of The Holy Child School and College and was parked beside the Dhaka-Aricha highway as usual.
Upon receiving the news, police quickly arrived at the scene, rescued the driver, and sent him to the hospital. Later, Fire Service personnel brought the fire under control. Legal procedures are underway regarding the incident.
