Saudi Arabia has ordered the expulsion of Iranian military attachés and embassy staff, declaring them persona non grata and directing them to depart within 24 hours, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Saturday.
In an official statement, the Kingdom voiced its firm condemnation of what it termed Iran’s repeated and brazen attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and a number of Arab and Islamic nations.
The ministry stated that Iran’s persistent aggression against Saudi sovereignty, civilian infrastructure, economic assets, and diplomatic missions represents a clear breach of international law, the principles of good neighbourly relations, the Beijing Agreement, and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).
Such actions, the statement noted, stand in direct opposition to the very principles Iran professes to uphold. It further warned that continued hostility will carry serious implications for both current and future bilateral relations.
According to the Saudi Foreign Ministry, formal notification was issued to the Iranian military attaché, assistant military attaché, and three other embassy staff members, instructing them to leave.
The Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to taking all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, security, territory, airspace, citizens, residents, and national interests, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
