Dubai-based entrepreneur Satish Sanpal, who shot to international attention through Netflix’s Desi Bling, is facing mounting legal scrutiny even as his extravagant lifestyle continues to draw public fascination, reports NDTV.
The reality series introduced viewers to Sanpal and his wife, Tabinda Sanpal, showcasing a life of immense wealth complete with a luxury mansion overlooking the Burj Khalifa, Rolls-Royces, yachts, designer wardrobes and an extensive collection of jewellery.
One of the show’s most talked-about moments came when Tabinda claimed she owned 40 kilograms of gold, adding that her husband gifts her around three kilograms of gold every Dhanteras, further cementing the couple’s image as symbols of extraordinary luxury.
However, away from the glamour of the Netflix series, Satish Sanpal has become the subject of multiple legal proceedings in India.
According to court records, he is linked to nine criminal cases registered in Madhya Pradesh. A Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him in August 2022, while Delhi High Court records from earlier this year note that he has secured bail in eight of the nine cases.
The remaining matter reportedly involves a bailable offence for which he is in the process of obtaining bail.
The scrutiny has also extended beyond India. On 13 July, the UAE Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) ordered a temporary freeze on the assets of Satish Sanpal, his wife and several companies linked to them.
The directive instructed banks and financial institutions across the UAE to freeze accounts, investments and digital wallets while restricting financial transactions during the review period.
The notice also reportedly lists Sanpal’s nationality as Vanuatu, although his legal counsel declined to comment on the matter.
Several of the criminal cases relate to alleged online betting operations, including an IPL betting investigation launched in 2022.
Court documents state that investigators alleged two arrested individuals named Sanpal as a source of betting links, while separate FIRs also mention alleged gambling-related offences.
Sanpal’s legal team has strongly denied any wrongdoing. His lawyers maintain that there is no material evidence against him, that he has not been convicted in any of the pending cases, and that no formal Enforcement Directorate case has been registered against him.
They have also approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking to quash the criminal proceedings, with several petitions still awaiting a decision.
As legal proceedings continue, the businessman remains active on social media, highlighting the sharp contrast between the glamorous image that made him a Netflix sensation and the legal challenges that now surround him.
