Students Against Discrimination (SAD) has condemned the police action against government primary school assistant teachers during their peaceful march in Dhaka’s Shahbagh on Saturday afternoon.
In a statement issued on Sunday, SAD denounced the “brutal police action” and urged the authorities concerned to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
Referring to the historic July mass uprising, the statement said the protest was not merely for a change in government but aimed at eradicating fascist systems and pursuing comprehensive state reform.
“It is deeply regrettable that, despite the formation of six reform commissions, no Education Reform Commission has been established to address the concerns of students and teachers,” the statement read.
It added that regardless of the justification behind the demands, the use of force is never a solution.
Constructive dialogue and peaceful negotiation are the only sustainable paths forward, it said.
