Legendary singer and composer Runa Laila held her first-ever solo concert in Bangladesh on 24 July at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka, where she was also honoured with a state recognition.
The much-anticipated event drew overwhelming interest from music lovers. While many fortunate fans secured tickets to witness the live performance, others were unable to attend due to high demand.
For young singer Jobaer Jahangir Joy, known for his melodious style, the concert marked the fulfilment of a long-cherished dream.
Joy said he has admired Runa Laila since childhood, closely following her songs, vocal technique, diction, stage presence and performance style.
Despite several attempts over the years, he had never had the opportunity to meet the legendary artiste in person.
When he learned about the solo concert, he was determined to attend.
His efforts paid off, allowing him to experience the performance live and enjoy 11 songs performed by the veteran singer.
According to Joy, the emotional performance moved him to tears on several occasions.
After the concert, with the assistance of journalist Ovi Moinuddin, Joy finally met Runa Laila backstage.
The legendary singer signed his concert ticket and also posed for photographs with him, making the evening even more memorable.
Sharing his experience, Joy said, “Although Runa Laila Madam’s solo concert ended more than a week ago, it still feels like a dream. Listening to her perform live, meeting her in person, receiving her autograph and taking a photograph with her are moments I will always cherish. When she asked for my name while signing the autograph, it became an unforgettable memory. I pray that this great artiste remains healthy and continues to inspire us with her music for many years.”
Runa Laila is currently on a concert tour in Australia. She is scheduled to perform in Melbourne on 8 August before returning to Bangladesh on 12 August.
