The highly anticipated Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (Rucsu) and hall council elections, originally set for 25 September, will now be held on 16 October.
This decision was made during an emergency meeting on Monday, as announced in a press release signed by Chief Election Commissioner Professor F Nazrul Islam.
The statement mentioned that the current circumstances at Rajshahi University were not favorable for holding the elections as planned.
The delay comes after a clash over the “dependent quota” at the university, just days ahead of the scheduled election.
Ongoing disruptions, including the “Complete Shutdown” declared by the university’s teachers, staff, and officials, have made it impossible to ensure the necessary personnel for conducting the election duties.
In light of these challenges, the Election Commission unanimously agreed to move the election date to 16 October 2025, with the aim of holding the election in a fair, inclusive, and celebratory manner.
