Robbers looted six jewellery shops in Madaripur, injuring one person during the heist.
Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter. The incident occurred on Saturday in Hausdi Bazar, Sadar Upazila.
According to the victims, gold traders had closed their shops and returned home as usual on Friday night. In the early hours of Saturday, a gang of masked robbers attacked and bound the market guard, holding him at gunpoint.
The gang initially targeted New Konika Jewellers before looting gold ornaments and cash from five other shops. The robbers also reportedly made off with safes belonging to the jewellery shops. Affected business owners claim the losses amount to several crore takas.
OC Abul said the incident is being investigated and legal action will be taken.
