Several hundred workers from Eurozone Fashion Garments staged a road blockade in the capital’s Kuril area on Thursday afternoon, demanding unpaid wages and benefits, causing a complete halt in traffic movement.

According to a Facebook post by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Gulshan Traffic Division, around 500 to 600 workers began the protest around 3pm, blocking both incoming and outgoing lanes between Kuril and Badda.

As a result, vehicular movement in both directions was suspended.

Additionally, around 200 workers also blocked both sides of Airport Road on the Dhaka-Uttara–Mymensingh Highway, further worsening the traffic situation.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Gulshan Traffic Division, Ziaur Rahman Zia, confirmed that police had arrived on the scene to bring the situation under control.

“Police are on-site and are currently engaging in discussions with the workers to defuse the situation,” ADC Zia said.

This is not the first such demonstration by the factory workers. On September 2, Eurozone Fashion workers staged a similar protest, blocking the road for nearly four hours over the same demands for unpaid salaries and allowances.
