‘Rick and Morty’ is being developed into a feature film by Warner Bros., with franchise veteran Jacob Hair currently in talks to direct the project.
Plot details for the film remain undisclosed. However, series co-creator Dan Harmon has previously hinted over several years at plans for “a super badass” feature-length episode connected to the franchise.
The animated series, which is set to premier its ninth season on May 24 , first debuted in 2013 and has become an Emmy-winning hit for Adult Swim. The show follows eccentric scientist Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith as they balance family life with adventures across multiple dimensions.
Co-creator Justin Roiland originally voiced both central characters before leaving the series in 2023 following felony domestic abuse charges that were later dismissed. The characters are now voiced by Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden respectively.
The programme also features voice performances from Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer and Sarah Chalke.
Alongside the proposed film, another spin-off titled ‘President Curtis’, starring Keith David, is also currently in development for Adult Swim.
