A resort owner and his manager were abducted from Bandarban’s Nilachal area on Monday night, and authorities say they have yet to find any trace of them as of Tuesday afternoon.

The abducted men are Babumoni Karmakar, owner of Megh Duari Resort, and resort manager Mohammad Ovi.

Babumoni’s brother, Raju Karmakar, said the two were returning from the resort on Monday night when a group of 10–12 people intercepted their motorcycle and forcibly took them away. He said no ransom demand has been made so far. Their motorcycle was later found abandoned beside the Nilachal road.

Bandarban Superintendent of Police Abdur Rahman said security forces and police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the report and conducted searches in nearby areas.

Local residents said a regional armed group had recently demanded a large amount of extortion money from Babumoni, leading to an argument between the two sides.

However, they said they were unsure whether the abduction was linked to the extortion demand.
