Md Safiqul Islam Khan, the DNCC administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), on Monday stressed that the containment of dengue is impossible without the active participation of the city’s residents.
Speaking to reporters following an event at the Nagar Bhaban in Gulshan-2, DNCC administrator urged dwellers to remain vigilant during the monsoon season.
He called on citizens to ensure their surroundings are kept clean and to remove stagnant water from yards, flower pots, buckets, and other potential breeding sites for the Aedes mosquito. Khan also encouraged the public to support the ongoing special campaign, “Saturday’s commitment – let us clean our own homes”.
Earlier that day, DNCC administrator served as the chief guest at a ceremony where he distributed cheques totalling more than Tk92 lakh to 731 students.
These awards were granted under the DNCC’s Education and Merit Scholarship Policy-2017, an initiative aimed at supporting meritorious students from low-income backgrounds and helping them continue their studies.
During his address, Khan encouraged the recipients to prepare themselves as skilled human resources for various professional fields.
The programme was presided over by DNCC Chief Executive Officer Mohamad Ashaduz Zaman, who highlighted the significant growth of the scholarship scheme. Zaman noted that while only 69 students received scholarships last year, the number of beneficiaries has risen to 731 this year, all in accordance with the 2017 policy guidelines.
