Newly elected Vice President of Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (Jucsu), Abdur Rashid Jitu has recommended holding a referendum before introducing the Proportional Representation (PR) system in the country.
Speaking to the media in his home district Shariatpur on Wednesday, Jitu said “If the majority of people and political leaders consider PR essential, elections could be held under this system. Otherwise, there would be no need for it.”
Politics should create equal opportunities regardless of family background, and expressed hope that the upcoming February election would restore the long-awaited practice of fair democracy, he added.
