The scenic hill district of Rangamati is fully prepared to welcome a surge of tourists during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, with operators expecting significantly higher visitor numbers amid the government’s extended seven-day break.
Surrounded by lush hills, serene lakes, and waterfalls, Rangamati remains one of Bangladesh’s most sought-after travel destinations. Sajek Valley, the Hanging Bridge, Kaptai Lake, Polwel Park, Aranyak Resort, Shuvolong Waterfall, Rangadip Resort, Lake View Island, and Nisarga Pod House are expected to be particularly crowded during the festive period.
Alok Bikash Chakma, manager of the Rangamati Tourism and Holiday Complex, said around 70-80 per cent of rooms had already been booked. “We are fully prepared to welcome tourists. This year, arrivals are expected to be higher thanks to the long holiday,” he said, adding that infrastructure and services had been enhanced to ensure visitor comfort.
Rahul Chakma, Organising Secretary of the Resort and Cottage Owners’ Association of Sajek, confirmed that all rooms in Sajek Valley were booked for Eid day, with 60-70 per cent reservations secured for the following week.
Tourist operators have completed maintenance and painting of boats on Kaptai Lake, readying for lake cruises, while authorities have renovated and repainted the Hanging Bridge to improve its appeal.
Rangamati Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rakib Uddin said security arrangements had been strengthened across the district. “Help desks have been set up at key points to prevent harassment and ensure smooth travel. Tourists’ safety is our top priority,” he added.
With these preparations, Rangamati authorities aim to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for both local and visiting tourists during the Eid festivities.
