In Chattogram’s Boalkhali upazila, a fire triggered by an electrical short circuit destroyed five residential homes in Charandwip Union, causing an estimated Tk10 lakh in damage, according to the affected families.
The blaze broke out around 5:00 am on Tuesday in the Jabbar family home in East Syednagar, Ward No. 6. Homes belonging to Jahir Ahmed, Md Idris, Md Nasir, Jasim Uddin, and Md Rashed were completely gutted. Residents said the fire spread rapidly, leaving no time to salvage any belongings.
Two units from the Boalkhali Fire Service and Civil Defence responded to the scene. After nearly three hours of firefighting, the blaze was brought under control by 8:00 am.
Alok Chakma, in-charge of the fire station, confirmed that the fire destroyed one semi-pucca house and four tin-roofed homes. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit caused the fire.
