Ralph Fiennes, widely known for playing Voldemort in the ‘Harry Potter’ films, says he believes the opportunity to reprise his role in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series is in the past. However, the actor has suggested Tilda Swinton as a potential successor.
Speaking on ‘The Claudia Winkleman Show’, Ralph reflected on earlier comments in which he said he would have been open to returning as the iconic villain. “Yes, I’d love to,” he said of a past conversation about reprising the role, before adding, “But then nothing’s happened and I think that ship has sailed.”
Ralph, however, suggested Tilda Swinton could be a strong candidate for the part, saying she would be “amazing” in the role of the Dark Lord.
The casting of Voldemort for HBO’s new Harry Potter television adaptation has been the subject of widespread speculation, with Cillian Murphy also rumoured to be in consideration, who has previously dismissed the reports.
Ralph himself had earlier expressed support for Murphy taking on the role, calling him a “fantastic actor” and saying he would be in favour of the casting.
The first season of HBO’s Harry Potter series is expected to premiere later this year.
