Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Tahera Begum Akhi, the principal accused in the murder of Belal Uddin Jihad in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar.

RAB-15 Assistant Director (Law and Media) and Assistant Superintendent of Police AM Faruk confirmed the matter on Monday. Akhi, who is the wife of the deceased, is reportedly a well-known ‘Tiktoker’ on social media platforms.

Acting on a tip-off, a team from RAB-15 conducted an operation in the Kotbazar area of Ukhiya upazila and arrested her.

AM Faruk stated that the slit-throat and semi-decomposed remains of Belal were recovered on 4 March from a rented residence in the Purba Merongloa area of Fotekharkul union in Ramu.

After the murder, Akhi had gone hiding. The victim’s family subsequently filed a murder case at Ramu Police Station, naming her as the prime suspect. AM Faruk noted that an investigation was launched immediately after the incident, and intelligence surveillance was intensified to bring the accused to justice.

During primary interrogation, Akhi stated, “The murder occurred as a result of a family feud.” Akhi has been handed over to Ramu Police Station for further legal proceedings.
