Acclaimed filmmaker Quentin Tarantino is developing an original British stage play that could premiere in London’s West End as early as late 2026, according to a Daily Mail report.
The Oscar-winning director revealed last year that his next creative venture would be a theatrical production. Speaking on a podcast in August, Tarantino confirmed that the script had already been completed and that work on the project would begin soon.
“The play is written. It is absolutely the next thing I’m going to do,” he said at the time, adding that the project could take “a year and a half to two years” of his life.
Contrary to speculation that the play might adapt one of his iconic films such as ‘Reservoir Dogs’ or ‘Kill Bill’, the production is reportedly an entirely new work. Sources say Tarantino has written a traditional British farce inspired by the door-slamming, mistaken-identity comedy style associated with playwrights like Brian Rix and Ray Cooney.
The play is said to follow the classic farcical tradition popularised by stage comedies such as ‘Noises Off’.
A source familiar with the project said Tarantino is currently considering various theatre venues while determining how the play will be staged. One rumoured scene may involve an actor entering the stage on a wire, suggesting the production could include elaborate theatrical elements.
Casting discussions are also reportedly underway, with Tarantino said to be in talks with major Hollywood actors to appear in the production. However, it remains unclear whether any of his frequent collaborators, including Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt, will be involved, as neither is widely known for stage work.
Actors with theatrical experience, such as Bradley Cooper, who previously performed in a West End revival of ‘The Elephant Man’, could be potential candidates.
Tarantino, who currently lives in Israel with his wife Daniella Pick, has been spending time in London and was recently spotted attending a West End performance of ‘High Noon’ in February.
The stage project comes as Tarantino continues to reassess his film plans. He recently chose not to direct ‘The Adventures of Cliff Booth’, a continuation of the universe he created in ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’. While Tarantino wrote the script, the film is being directed by David Fincher.
The director has long maintained that he intends to make only 10 feature films. He previously scrapped a planned final film titled ‘The Movie Critic’ and has yet to confirm what his 10th and last movie will be.
