Channel i is set to celebrate the country’s musical heritage with a new programme dedicated to folk music. Titled ‘I Folk Fever’, the upcoming series will bring together both legendary performers and emerging voices to present traditional songs that have shaped Bangladesh’s cultural landscape.
The programme will run for 23 episodes and feature a range of artists performing classic folk numbers in specially recorded sessions. Among the first to complete filming for the show is renowned singer Sabina Yasmin, who recently recorded her segment at the Channel i studio. During the session, she performed five well-known folk songs.
Reflecting on the recording, Sabina Yasmin said folk music has always held a special place in the hearts of listeners. She noted that it was rare for her to perform so many folk pieces in a single programme and described the experience as thoroughly enjoyable.
The veteran singer also expressed appreciation to the organisers for creating a platform devoted to the genre and thanked planner Jahangir Sayeed for inviting her to take part.
Several other artists have already participated in the production, including Rafiqul Alam, Khurshid Alam, Kanak Chapa, Ferdous Ara, Salma, Liza, Zhilik and Nakul Kumar Biswas.
Showrunners believe the I Folk Fever will help keep the country’s folk traditions alive while introducing younger audiences to songs that have long been part of Bangladesh’s cultural identity.
The series is being produced by Iftekhar Munim Ahsan and planned by Jahangir Sayeed.
