Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has urged the United States and Iran to reach a peace deal to end the war, warning that neither country can afford to wait for a “perfect moment” to negotiate.

Speaking in an interview at Oxford University, the Qatari leader stressed the need for both sides to pursue negotiations, reports Al Jazeera.

His appeal comes as US President Donald Trump confirmed that Washington is holding discussions with Iranian representatives. Trump disclosed the ongoing talks following a telephone conversation with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Meanwhile, Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that two missiles struck Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Semi-official Iranian news outlets reported that there were no casualties in the strike.
