Tamim Iqbal stepped into the spotlight on Saturday in Purbachal, where the BCB ad hoc committee president inspected the long-delayed stadium project alongside sports state minister Aminul Haque, outlined design concerns, and pushed for changes to reshape the venue’s future.
Tamim did not sugar-coat the situation. He admitted the design needs refinement and made it clear the board will not tweak things for cosmetic reasons.
“Today the honourable minister came, we showed him the full design and presented everything. Some changes are necessary. We will not change things just for the sake of it, but certain design changes are essential.” He struck a measured tone, but the message carried weight. The current plan does not fully satisfy the board’s expectations.
He widened the conversation beyond cricket. Tamim wants the venue to serve more than one sport, a move that reflects both ambition and responsibility.
“It’s a very big property. We will try to include other sports alongside cricket. The honourable minister also said if we can integrate some sports, it will benefit the country.” That line reveals a broader strategy. The BCB sees itself not just as a cricket authority but as a stakeholder in the wider sporting ecosystem.
Tamim also acknowledged the financial reality. Building a modern, international-standard stadium demands serious investment, and he knows it.
“We will discuss with the designers. If needed, we will talk to others and work together with the NSC, because a big stadium will require significant government investment.” He placed collaboration at the centre of the next phase, signalling that the project will not move forward in isolation.
