Pakistan Super League has confirmed a major structural reset ahead of its 11th edition, switching to a player auction model, raising salary caps, and expanding venues as PSL 11 begins on March 26, 2026, across Pakistan, including Faisalabad.
After ten seasons of operating through a draft, the league has decided to tear up its old playbook. The auction model now replaces the draft, signalling a push towards sharper competition and cleaner squad-building.
The league made its position clear when it said, “This strategic shift is aimed at enhancing competitive balance, increasing transparency, and providing players with greater earning opportunities.” That line matters, because drafts often rewarded caution, while auctions punish hesitation and expose intent.
Under the new system, franchises can retain only four players, with just one allowed from each category. The days of stockpiling stars through eight retentions, mentors, brand ambassadors and right-to-match cards are now over.
PSL has scrapped the mentor, brand ambassador and RTM rules entirely for season 11. This move strips away legacy advantages and forces every franchise to rethink its core identity.
New teams will also get a controlled head start. They can select and retain four players from the available pool before the auction begins, ensuring competitiveness without distorting the market.
Each franchise will also gain the option to directly sign one foreign player who did not feature in HBL PSL X. That clause opens the door for fresh international names and prevents the recycling of familiar overseas faces.
Money now does more of the talking. The league has raised the salary purse to USD 1.6 million per franchise, a clear signal that PSL wants to compete harder for elite global talent.
The league framed the wider picture when it stated, “These progressive measures reflect the League’s strategic trajectory and evolution, while remaining firmly rooted in its mission to promote cricketing excellence, fan engagement, and attaining unprecedented heights.” In simple terms, PSL wants to grow up without losing its edge.
PSL 11 will start on March 26, 2026, with Faisalabad returning as an additional host venue. The expansion reinforces the league’s national footprint and spreads the commercial spotlight beyond traditional centres.
