Leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations, along with local residents, staged a protest rally in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on Friday, demanding justice for the killing of Azizur Rahman Musabbir, a former general secretary of the Dhaka North unit of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal.
Organised by BNP leaders and activists of Ward No. 26 and residents of the Tejturi Bazar area, the procession began after Jumma prayers from Kajipara in Karwan Bazar and marched through several roads in Tejgaon area.
The protesters later staged a sit-in in front of the local police station.
During the demonstration, participants chanted slogans demanding accountability from the authorities and action against those responsible for the killing.
Musabbir was shot by unidentified assailants around 8pm on Wednesday near Star Kabar restaurant in Karwan Bazar. He was taken to a private hospital in Panthapath, where doctors declared him dead.
Abu Sufian Bepari Masud, general secretary of the Tejgaon Van Workers’ Union, who was with Musabbir at the time of the attack, was also shot and sustained injuries.
Police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing and efforts are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
