BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas on Sunday accused a vested group of using the proportional electoral system as a pretext to push the nation toward destruction.
Speaking as the chief guest at a member recruitment and renewal programme organised by Ramna Thana BNP at the Institution of Diploma Engineers auditorium in Kakrail, Dhaka, Abbas alleged that “different people are raising different demands to delay the election. A group has taken to the field to destroy the nation in the name of the proportional system.” “These destructive suggestions are being used by some to ruin this country and its people,” he warned. “They are the ones who will not let the nation move forward.”
Calling for unity, Abbas urged, “Those who love the country should come together. Don’t just hold rallies and speak nonsense. BNP does not want to get involved in any kind of conflict.”
On the issue of new member inclusion, Abbas said, “We definitely want new people in our party. A new and strong force will be built through a combination of the old and the new. But that doesn’t mean we will accommodate expelled Awami collaborators.”
Among others present were BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Dhaka South Metropolitan BNP Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin, and other party leaders.
