A three-member investigation committee has been formed to probe allegations surrounding the death of Monarul Hossain Bakshi, the vice-president of Savar Thana Chhatra Dal and a leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, who died after falling from the rooftop of a five-storey building during a police raid in Savar.
The committee is headed by Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime, Ops and Traffic North) Jahangir Alam. The other two members are Savar Circle Officer Rakibul Hasan Nishan and Savar Model Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam.
On Saturday, the committee members visited the residence of the deceased and its rooftop, located in the residential area of the Public Administration Training Centre. Additionally, they inspected the exact spot where the lifeless body was found and spoke to local residents.
The incident occurred on Friday night when a joint team of police from Pirgachha Thana and Savar Thana conducted a raid to apprehend an accused on the fourth floor of a five-storey building inside the Public Administration Training Centre residential area.
According to reports, Monarul had taken position on the fifth-storey roof. As a police officer attempted to catch him, he fell down and died.
However, the father of the deceased has claimed that his son was thrown off the rooftop and murdered. Insisting that the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leader and Savar Thana Chhatra Dal vice-president was murdered, his family is demanding justice.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the body of the deceased was buried in the family graveyard at his village home in Pirgachha, Rangpur. Following the arrival of his body there, local residents staged a demonstration in protest.
