Bogura’s Modhuban Cineplex is preparing to reopen its doors ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr after remaining closed for several months due to a prolonged shortage of films and mounting financial losses.
The cinema hall, once converted into a community centre amid ongoing losses, is now set for a fresh start with the Eid release of ‘Prince: Once upon a time in Dhaka’, starring Shakib Khan. Management hopes the high-profile film will help draw audiences back and restore the theatre’s fortunes.
Owner RM Yunus Rubel said the cineplex has strong expectations from the current administration, stressing that long-term survival will depend not only on quality local productions but also on permission to regularly import foreign films. “Relying solely on Eid releases may not be sustainable in the present market,” he noted.
Director SM Yunus Rohan added that the decision to resume operations was made with both staff livelihoods and audience demand in mind. Preparations are underway to welcome cinemagoers during the festive season.
The reopening has sparked renewed optimism among employees. Shajahan, who has worked at the establishment for five decades, said the announcement has revived hopes of stable employment after months of uncertainty.
