Bangladesh batter Towhid Hridoy has called for school cricket tournaments to be scheduled in a rain-free window, recalling how a past final had to be decided by a toss.
He said this at a formal press conference ahead of the Prime Bank National School Cricket 2025–26 season.
The tournament will once again be held under the supervision of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, with sponsorship from Prime Bank Limited. Prime Bank has been supporting school cricket since 2015 to help develop young cricketers across the country.
This year, more than 8,500 players from 350 schools across 64 districts will take part. A total of 651 matches are scheduled. The district-level matches will begin on April 10. Then the competition will move to divisional and national stages.
The official jersey for the 2025–26 season was unveiled on Thursday.
At the press conference, national team captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was also present, along with chief selector Habibul Bashar.
Hridoy said, “Whenever I talk about school cricket, I become emotional. Because I started my journey through school cricket.”
“A couple of years ago, the champion had to be decided by a toss. I want this school cricket championship to be held at a time when there is no rain,” he said.
He added, “We hope this tournament continues every year. It has been running for the past 11 years. In the future, we will improve the areas that need development, and Inshallah, we will move forward.”
