Shafiqur Rahman, ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami and leader of the opposition, has described President Mohammed Shahabuddin’s conduct as “unacceptable.”

The Jamaat chief made these remarks in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday afternoon. The post follows the recent publication of an interview with the president in a national newspaper.

In his post, Shafiqur alleged that the president had suppressed numerous facts regarding the events of 5 August 2024.

He stated that the president’s current claims do not acknowledge what he had previously told the leaders present at the time, and the nation later, regarding the resignation of the “fugitive prime minister.”

“What he is saying now, he did not say at all on that day,” Shafiqur wrote. He further questioned how the President would reconcile the discrepancies between what millions of people heard him say then and his current statements.

Adding that the nation is “not unintelligent,” the ameer remarked that such behaviour from the highest office of state is unacceptable.
