President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will offer their Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the main congregation at the National Eidgah. The prayer is scheduled to take place at 8:30am.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam shared the information after an inspection of the Eidgah on Thursday.
He said, “This year’s Eid prayers at the Eidgah Maidan will be historic for many reasons. This is because the President will offer Eid prayers here, and this is the first celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr after the BNP government was formed with a huge majority through free, fair, and neutral elections across Bangladesh after a long time.”
Dhaka City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, who also visited the site, stated, “We hope that members of our cabinet and other high-ranking officials will also pray here.”
He confirmed that arrangements have been made for around 35,000 people to pray at the Eidgah. However, the state minister later clarified that around 40,000 men and women combined would be able to attend, with separate arrangements and entry points provided for women.
To ensure the safety of the VVIPs and the public, members of the Special Security Force (SSF), Police, and RAB will be deployed. Dhaka Divisional Commissioner will later brief the media on alternative arrangements in the event of heavy rainfall.
National Eidgah has been specially decorated for Eid. An aesthetic gate has been created at the main entrance featuring the lines, “O Mon Romzaner Oi Rozar Sheshe Elo Khushir Eid. Eid Mubarak.”
The entire field is covered with tarpaulins and carpets, with adequate fans and lighting systems in place. Alternative power arrangements are available in case of outages.
Separate ablution facilities with new water taps and drinking water have been provided for worshippers. Moreover, a police and RAB control room, a health service centre, and a fire brigade team will be stationed at the venue.
During the inspection, the state minister and the administrator were accompanied by Home Secretary Monzur Morshed Chowdhury, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar.
