President Md Shahabuddin has organised a special prayer session at the Bangabhaban following Jummah prayers on Friday, seeking the speedy recovery of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
The prayer event took place in all mosques of Bangabhaban, where prayers were offered for the health and long life of the former prime minister. President Shahabuddin participated in the Jummah prayer at Bangabhaban Jame Masjid with his officials and senior officers.
Maulana Muhammad Saiful Kabir, the Imam of the mosque, led the special prayer for Khaleda Zia’s quick recovery and longevity. The prayer also included supplications for the peace, prosperity, and welfare of Bangladesh.
Attendees included the president’s family members, relevant secretaries, civilian and military officials, and Bangabhaban staff.
In the meantime, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is expected to travel to London soon for advanced medical treatment. A medical board, after reviewing her condition with experts, has deemed her fit to travel. The team included Dr Richard Beale from the UK and four specialists from China.
The 80-year-old former prime minister has been undergoing treatment in the Coronary Care Unit at Evercare Hospital since 23 November. A Qatar-sent air ambulance will take her to London, with a stopover in Qatar before proceeding to Heathrow Airport.
Her son, BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, who has been residing in the UK since 2008, is expected to receive her at Heathrow. From there, Khaleda Zia will be taken directly to London Bridge Hospital.
Earlier this year, Khaleda Zia spent four months in London for medical treatment, returning to Bangladesh on 6 May. A 12-member medical board, comprising both foreign and local doctors, is overseeing her treatment.
