The government has taken special measures to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the country during Eid-ul-Adha.
The Power Division has ensured round-the-clock monitoring of power generation, transmission and distribution systems. Emergency repair teams remain on standby to respond quickly to any disruption.
Power Division Secretary Mirana Mahrukh told BSS that all necessary steps have been taken to maintain uninterrupted electricity supply during the Eid holidays.
She said distribution companies have received instructions accordingly. The ministry is directly monitoring the overall situation.
Officials said adequate generation capacity has been kept ready to meet the expected rise in electricity demand during the Eid period. Power plants have been directed to operate at optimum capacity to maintain stability in the national grid.
Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Member (Generation) Md Johurul Islam said electricity demand during Eid is expected to reach around 12,000 to 13,000 megawatts. Some units remain under scheduled maintenance, while fuel-based plants are also being operated to meet peak demand.
He said online coordination meetings are being held with distribution companies. Field engineers have been deployed in four BPDB zones to ensure quick response during storms or technical faults.
The BPDB said industrial and commercial demand usually falls during Eid holidays, which helps maintain stable electricity supply in residential areas. It added that vulnerable transmission lines and substations have already been inspected and maintained.
Special control rooms will remain active before and after Eid. Engineers, linemen and technical teams will stay on standby for emergency response.
The Power Division has instructed senior officials of all agencies to monitor electricity conditions in their respective areas during the holiday period. They must also submit reports to the ministry.
Distribution companies, including Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC), Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO), Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) and Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO), have formed special monitoring teams.
The Power Division has also urged consumers to avoid unnecessary electricity use. It advised prepaid meter users to complete recharges in advance.
