The Bangladesh Post Office has emerged in a dynamic new form, leveraging digital technology and modern infrastructure to revitalise its services.
Under its modernised “Speed Post” service, the department is now ensuring parcel deliveries to Dhaka within 24 hours of booking and nationwide within a maximum of 48 hours.
Operating under the motto, “Your product, our responsibility,” this nationwide parcel transport service has been launched to meet growing demands. To expand the scope of its services, 11 franchise model post offices are being introduced on a pilot basis.
Additionally, 14 state-of-the-art fulfillment centres are being established across the country to provide logistics support for the e-commerce sector, a move expected to bring a revolutionary change to the nation’s logistics and parcel delivery industry.
One of the most significant attractions of the Speed Post service is its highly competitive postage rates, which are several times more affordable than those of private courier services. The tariff is set at just Tk10 for the first kilogram, with every subsequent kilogram costing only Tk5.
These low costs are playing a vital role in increasing profits for marginal and female e-commerce entrepreneurs by significantly reducing business overheads. To assist customers in estimating costs, the department has launched a digital postage calculator, accessible via a specific link.
The service also features advanced digital tracking, enabling customers to monitor the real-time location of their parcels online from their homes. Updated information is available 24 hours a day via the official tracking link.
With a vast network extending to the union level, the Post Office facilitates easy booking and distribution even in remote areas. For international shipments, the reliable EMS (Express Mail Service) is available, featuring a global link for tracking overseas parcels.
The booking process has been streamlined for customer convenience. Parcels can be sent by visiting the nearest designated post office, where customers receive an official receipt containing a tracking number upon payment of the booking fee.
Following this, parcels are delivered within the stipulated timeframe: 24 hours for Dhaka and 48 hours for locations outside the capital.
