Former film actress Sadika Parvin Popy has said she is not interested in returning to regular acting, although she would consider appearing in a biographical film based on her life if it were produced to a high standard.
Speaking about the possibility of returning to the screen, Popy said she has received several offers over the years but has no intention of accepting them. She explained that she currently wants to focus on her family life with her husband and their only child, Ayat.
“My happy family life is now my main priority,” she said. “However, if a perfect and research-based biopic is made about my life, I would not object to acting in it.”
The actress said any such project would need to accurately portray different stages of her life, including her childhood, upbringing, education, participation in beauty pageants, personal struggles and various chapters of her film career.
“If my life story is presented properly, then I will consider it,” she said. “I have countless fans at home and abroad, so any biopic about my life would have to be exceptional.”
Popy made her film debut opposite Omar Sani in the film Coolie, directed by Montazur Rahman Akbar. Her performance and screen presence in the film quickly established her as a leading actress in the Bangladeshi film industry.
She later appeared in numerous popular films, including ‘Dorodi Shontan’, ‘Charidike Shotru’, ‘Ei Mon Tomake Dilam’, ‘Moner Milon’, ‘Manush Manusher Jonno’, ‘Praner Priyotoma’, ‘Bhalobashar Ghor’, ‘Jibon Mane Juddho’, ‘Amar Ghor Amar Behest’, among many other titles.
In 2003, Popy won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in ‘Karagar’, directed by Kalam Kaiser. She later received the same honour for her performances in ‘Megher Kole Rod’, directed by Nargis Akter, and ‘Gangajatra’, directed by Syed Wahiduzzaman Diamond.
Popy’s most recent screen appearance was in ‘Direct Attack’, directed by Sadeq Siddiqui, in which she starred alongside Amin Khan and Emon.
