The High Court has directed the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) to publish the merit-based results for non-cadre posts under the 43rd Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination within 60 days.
A bench comprising Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar and Justice Urmee Rahman delivered the order on Thursday, following a writ petition filed by 465 candidates who appeared in the viva voce examination.
The petitioners challenged the legality of PSC’s decision to recommend 642 candidates for non-cadre appointments without publishing the final results, alleging that the process was unlawful.
The case was initiated on 29 January, 2024, when the candidates filed a writ petition before the High Court.
Following a preliminary hearing, the court issued a rule and related orders on 5 February, 2024.
Subsequently, the petitioners sought directives to preserve non-cadre posts under the 43rd BCS.
On 15 December, the court ordered the preservation of 8,501 non-cadre posts under the same examination.
After concluding hearings, the High Court delivered its final judgment on Thursday, bringing the proceedings to an end.
Lawyer Humayun Kabir Pallab represented the petitioners, while Muniruzzaman appeared for the PSC.
Speaking to reporters after the verdict, Pallab said the writ petition had challenged the legality of recommending 642 candidates without publishing the final non-cadre merit list.
He added that the court has now directed the PSC to publish the results within 60 days on a merit basis, after which appointments will be made in accordance with existing laws.
