A polling officer died while performing his duties at a polling centre in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria on Thursday morning.

Md Mujahidul Islam, 48, was serving at the Nazrul Islam Auditorium polling centre (No. 51) when he suddenly fell ill.

He was immediately taken to the Sarail Upazila Health Complex by his colleagues, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Sarail Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Assistant Returning Officer, Md Abu Bakar Sarker, has confirmed the death of the polling officer.

Dr Mohammad Nizam Uddin, upazila health and family planning officer, said doctors suspect he may have suffered a brain haemorrhage.

Mujahidul Islam was the son of the late Golam Mowla of Halua Para village in Sarail. Voting at the centre continued normally after the incident.
