Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar announced on Sunday that mobile courts will be deployed to prevent irregularities and ensure a safe and comfortable journey for home-bound people during the upcoming Eid.
Speaking at a press conference held at the DMP Media Centre, he stated that these mobile courts would be active in the field to stop the operation of unfit buses, prevent the charging of extra fares, and curb passenger harassment. Members of the law enforcement agencies will increase their surveillance at bus terminals and other key locations.
The acting commissioner also noted that adequate police personnel have been deployed to make the Eid journey hassle-free. In addition, surveillance by the Detective Branch has been intensified at bus terminals.
As the capital becomes largely empty during the Eid holidays, patrolling will be strengthened on major roads and areas to ensure urban security. Police will also set up checkposts at various points and maintain special surveillance in residential areas.
Issuing a cautionary message to city dwellers, the acting commissioner advised citizens to properly lock doors and windows, ensure adequate lighting inside their homes, and store important documents in safe places before leaving the city.
