Following three significant fires in Dhaka and Chattogram in just one week, Bangladesh police have been placed on high alert nationwide. The move comes due to concerns about potential attacks on key installations, known as Critical Infrastructure Points (CIP).

After a devastating fire at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s cargo village in Dhaka on Saturday, police headquarters issued instructions to increase security around vital infrastructure. All metropolitan, range, and district police forces have been directed to heighten vigilance, enhance patrols, and set up more checkpoints in areas of concern. Authorities have also urged swift action to detain any individuals suspected of posing a security threat.

CIPs, which include national landmarks like the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister’s Office, Parliament, airports, and power plants, are at the center of this security boost. Currently, there are 587 such sites across Bangladesh, overseen by a government committee responsible for their protection.

Security experts emphasize that safeguarding these critical infrastructures is crucial for the nation’s overall security. This heightened vigilance is part of broader efforts to ensure the safety and integrity of Bangladesh’s most important assets.
