The joint forces have arrested three members of a robbery gang while they were preparing for a heist by posing as personnel of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Uttara East, Dhaka
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter in a press release on Monday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Jalal Uddin alias Md Rafiqul Islam, 50, Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan, 37, and Md Rezaul Karim, 34.
According to the press release, the suspects were arrested during a joint operation on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Sector 6 of Uttara East around 3:20am on Sunday.
Uttara (East) Police Station, alongside the joint forces, was conducting a checkpoint in the Azampur bus stand area. Acting on a tip-off that several individuals in fake RAB uniforms were preparing for a robbery on the highway, the joint forces conducted the raid.
They recovered a foreign pistol, one magazine, four rounds of cartridges, a dummy pistol, a walkie-talkie set with an antenna and battery, two pairs of handcuffs, and four RAB jackets. Additionally, two fake RAB ID cards, two pistol covers, a reflecting jacket, a steel hammer, two paper-made vehicle number plates, three mobile phones, and Tk2,670 were seized.
Uttara East Police Station said Mohammad Jalal Uddin is accused in eight criminal cases across various police stations, while Mizanur Rahman faces three cases.
The arrested suspects have been sent to court.
