Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the local administration to take all necessary measures to minimise damage and alleviate the suffering of passengers following a train derailment in Bogura.

Tarique spoke via telephone with the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bogura on Wednesday evening to assess the overall situation and rescue operations.

During the conversation, he issued instructions to ensure the swift recovery of the derailed train and the immediate restoration of rail communication.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:30pm on Wednesday when nine coaches of the Nilphamari-bound Nilsagar Express, travelling from Dhaka, derailed at Alamdighi in Bogura. More than a hundred passengers are reported to have been injured in the incident.

Confirming the directives, the prime minister’s Additional Press Secretary, Atiqur Rahman Rumon, said the prime minister has ordered the local administration to ensure that the injured receive necessary medical treatment and that holidaymakers are provided with the required assistance to reach their destinations promptly.

The prime minister is maintaining a close watch on the situation in Bogura, which is his own constituency. He was elected as a lawmaker for the Bogra-6 seat in the 13th Parliamentary Election held on 12 February 2026.

He subsequently vacated the Bogra-6 seat after being sworn in as the prime minister.
