Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday instructed the authorities concerned to take effective measures to foster reading habits among students nationwide.
The directive was issued during a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat with representatives of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro and ministers from the education, primary and mass education, and cultural affairs ministries.
According to the Prime Minister’s Press Wing, the government has decided to work in partnership with Bishwo Shahitto Kendro to promote reading habits among students across the country.
The prime minister held a meeting with Bishwo Shahitto Kendro founder Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, focusing on identifying ways to expand reading programmes at the primary, secondary, and higher secondary levels. Detailed discussions were also held on broadening the reach and effectiveness of such initiatives.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj, and the Prime Minister’s advisers Mahdi Amin and Zahed Ur Rahman, among others, were present.
Officials from Bishwo Shahitto Kendro and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs were also present at the meeting.
Earlier, on 7 April, Professor Abu Sayeed met the prime minister, during which they discussed collaborative efforts to expand the reading programmes of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro.
