Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed grief over the loss of life in a train-bus collision in Cumilla and other accidents across the country, including in Habiganj.
Press Secretary Saleh Shibly said, “The PM conveyed profound condolences over the loss of lives in the collision between a train and a bus at a railway crossing in Cumilla.”
Following a recent train accident in Bogura, he has instructed authorities concerned to immediately determine the causes behind the latest incident, which occurred late Saturday night.
Tarique has already held multiple discussions with the concerned ministry officials and local administration regarding the accident.
He also directed them to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured and to provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased.
The PM further stated that thorough investigations will be conducted into the train-bus collision, and exemplary legal action will be taken against those found responsible for any negligence in each incident.
Three committees have already been formed to investigate the Cumilla rail accident. The railway authorities have constituted two committees, while another has been formed by the district administration of Cumilla.
All committees have been instructed to submit their reports within the next 72 hours. Action has already been taken against several individuals for negligence, and further steps will be taken based on the investigation reports.
Tarique has directed the concerned authorities to ensure proper treatment and necessary support for those injured in road accidents in Feni, Habiganj, Jamalpur, and other parts of the country.
He said such accidents are extremely painful and concerning at a time of joyous celebration of Eid. Every life is valuable, and every death is an irreparable loss.
He prayed to Almighty Allah for the forgiveness of the deceased and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved families.
Tarique also wished a speedy recovery for the injured and instructed authorities to ensure the highest level of medical care for them.
He emphasised that the government is committed to ensuring safe and uninterrupted movement of people and public safety, and that no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.
The PM also instructed the relevant ministries to identify weaknesses in railway crossing management, bridge safety, and the overall transportation system, and to take urgent necessary measures to address them.
