Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has congratulated the Bangladesh national cricket team for their historic nine‑wicket Test victory against Australia in Darwin.
Soon after the win, the prime minister phoned BCB Director Fahim Sinha to extend greetings to BCB President Tamim Iqbal, the players, coaching staff and all involved with the team, Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly said on Sunday.
The call was made while he was en route to Kishoreganj to attend programmes including the inauguration of National Fisheries Week 2026.
Tarique said the nation is proud of the achievement and would give the cricketers a warm reception on their return.
He expressed hope that Bangladesh’s success in international cricket would continue and inspire the younger generation, stressing the importance of team spirit, discipline and confidence.
Bangladesh sealed the victory on Day 4 of the first Test at Marrara Cricket Ground, chasing 57 runs after offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz took five wickets to bowl out Australia for 284.
The Tigers reached the target in 14.2 overs, losing only Tanzid Hasan Tamim. The win marked Bangladesh’s first Test triumph on Australian soil, coming 23 years after their last Test appearance there.
