Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday urged officials and staff of the Prime Minister’s Office to work sincerely to change the fate of the country’s people.
“The people of Bangladesh are looking at the government with great expectations. You are also part of this government,” he said while addressing a meeting at the Shapla Hall of the PMO in Tejgaon.
He said PMO officials and staff are part of the administration and the government would perform well only if they extend full cooperation.
“We consider this country our first and last address. So we must work ourselves to change the destiny of our people,” he said.
Tarique arrived at the PMO at 10:15am and held his first meeting with officials and staff since assuming office.
According to a PMO press release, Prime Minister’s advisers Mirza Abbas, Ismail Zabiullah, Humayun Kabir, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Brig Gen (retd) ATM Shamsul Islam and Zahedur Rahman were present, along with Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar.
Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar delivered the welcome address, while PMO Director General Mohammad Abdul Wadud Chowdhury presented the structure and functions of the office.
Referring to the election manifesto, Tarique said every political party has one and that people gave their mandate through a fair election to implement the Bangladesh Nationalist Party commitments.
“So, we must work in line with the commitments made in the manifesto,” he said.
He sought cooperation from officials in implementing pledges, particularly in health, education, women’s education, employment generation, sports and other priority sectors.
He stressed the need to ensure citizens’ security so they feel safe.
“If we all work together, we will certainly achieve this goal,” he said.
The prime minister also expressed hope that officials and employees would support efforts to eliminate corruption.
He instructed them to maintain confidentiality where necessary in the interest of the state and to strictly follow government rules and regulations to build a disciplined nation.
Heads of departments and agencies under the PMO, along with its officials and staff, attended the meeting.
Tarique attended office on Saturday despite the public holiday, continuing a practice he began last week when he first worked at the PMO on a weekly holiday.
