Rhea Chakraborty has opened up about her 28 days in judicial custody in 2020, sharing unexpected memories of prison life and the people she met there. The actress spoke about the experience during a recent conversation with Tanmay Bhat on his YouTube channel.
According to NDTV, Rhea said her experience changed her perception of people in prison. “I feel people inside jail are better than people outside jail,” she said, adding that many women in the undertrial prison were innocent and that there was no hierarchy. “Everyone’s equal, everyone’s a number, there’s no name,” she said.
The Narcotics Control Bureau arrested Rhea on 8 September 2020 during its drugs investigation linked to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. She faced allegations of procuring drugs for him and received bail on 7 October.
Rhea recalled lighter moments in prison, saying women would sing, dance and make thecha. Joking about prison food, she said, “You get sushi, champagne, vada pao and chaat,” before joking that her book would be titled Chudail ka badla.
She also spoke about life after the case. The CBI filed a closure report on 22 March 2025, concluding that Sushant died by suicide. Rhea later recovered her passport and travelled abroad with her parents.
