Several areas in Sylhet city will experience power outages on Friday from 6:00am to 10:00am due to urgent development and maintenance work, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) has announced.
The power supply will also remain suspended on Saturday from 7am to 12pm in certain areas under a separate maintenance schedule.
The BPDB shared the information through a press release on Thursday.
According to the notice, power supply under all feeders of the 33/11 kV Sheikhghat substation will remain shut on Friday from 6:00am to 10:00am for the emergency completion of construction work on an alternative 33 kV source line under the Power System Development Project.
Areas to be affected include Jallarpar, Keane Bridge, Nawab Road, Laladighir Par, Ghasitula, Police Lines, Circuit House Express, Kolapara, Bhatalia, CGM Court, Bangladesh Bank, Betar, Sagardighir Par, Dariyapara, Jamtola, Mirzajangal, Chayaneer, Chayataru, Soroshpur Goli, Madan Mohan College, parts of Lamabazar, Masudighir Par, Ramerdighir Par, Taltola, Telihawor, Sheikhghat, Shubhechchha Residential Area, West Kazirbazar, Jitu Miah Point, Kuarpar, Bilpar, Ingulal Road, Nabin Residential Area and Bhanga Tikor.
Meanwhile, a separate notice signed by Md Abdur Razzaq, executive engineer of BPDB’s Sales and Distribution Division-2, stated that power supply under the 11 kV Baluchar feeder will remain suspended on Saturday from 7:00am to 12:00pm for urgent repair and maintenance work, clearance of vegetation along the right-of-way, and development work under the power distribution improvement project.
The affected areas under the 11 kV Baluchar feeder include Baluchar, Shantibagh Residential Area, Sonar Bangla Residential Area, Notun Bazar, Al-Islah, Arambagh, Baluchar Chararpar, Focus area, and nearby localities. For safety reasons, even if the lines appear active during the shutdown period, they will be treated as off.
The BPDB said power supply might be restored earlier if the work is completed ahead of schedule. The organisation has expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to consumers.
