A high-level delegation from Pakistan led by the country’s Army Chief Asim Munir arrived in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on Wednesday as part of ongoing attempts to facilitate talks between the United States and Iran.
The army chief, accompanied by the interior minister and other senior officials, arrived in Tehran as part of continuing mediation efforts, Pakistan’s media wing said.
According to media reports, earlier in the evening, official sources said that the delegation had departed to deliver important messages related to ongoing diplomatic efforts between the two countries, as Pakistan steps up its role in promoting dialogue between the US and Iran.
The sources said the delegation includes representatives from the foreign ministry, security institutions, and technical experts, reflecting the multi-faceted nature of the engagement.
The visit follows renewed diplomatic activity after earlier talks hosted in Pakistan and ongoing efforts to arrange a possible next round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcastic (IRIB) news agency said the second round of talks is expected to be held in the coming days in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, Al Jazeera reports.
