Outgoing Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Secretariat in the afternoon, said Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues related to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, maritime security, modernisation of the Bangladesh Navy and other matters of national interest.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman praised Admiral Nazmul Hassan for his leadership and contributions to strengthening the Bangladesh Navy during his tenure.
He appreciated the outgoing Navy chief’s role in modernising the force, improving its operational capabilities and further developing it as a professional naval service.
Admiral Nazmul Hassan expressed gratitude to the prime minister for his guidance, cooperation and support, according to the deputy press secretary.
Following the meeting, the prime minister hosted a luncheon in honour of the outgoing Navy chief.
Admiral Nazmul Hassan assumed the office of Chief of Naval Staff on July 24, 2023. He was commissioned into the Bangladesh Navy on 1 July, 1986, and served in various command, staff and instructional roles during his long career.
He previously served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel), Director of Naval Operations and Naval Intelligence, and Director General of the Civil-Military Liaison Directorate at the Armed Forces Division.
He also commanded four naval warships, including the training ship BNS Omar Farooq.
