One more child has died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours to 8am on Tuesday, taking Bangladesh’s combined total of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 657, according to health officials.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said the latest fatality has been classified as a suspected measles death, while no new confirmed deaths were recorded during the reporting period.

With the latest update, suspected measles deaths have risen to 564, while laboratory-confirmed deaths remain unchanged at 93.

During the 24-hour period, 1,006 suspected measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of suspected infections nationwide to 87,929.

In the same period, 136 new laboratory-confirmed cases were recorded, raising the total confirmed infections to 10,523.

Since 15 March, a total of 72,405 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country, of whom 68,782 have recovered, DGHS data showed.
