Bangladesh continues to grapple with a growing measles outbreak, with 1,153 new cases and one additional death reported in the past 24 hours, the Health Directorate’s Integrated Control Centre said on Friday.
Of the new cases, 1,027 were suspected and 126 confirmed in laboratories during the same period. Since the outbreak began on 15 March, the total number of suspected cases has reached 84,266, with 10,185 laboratory-confirmed infections.
The death toll now stands at 551 suspected and 92 confirmed fatalities.
Division-wise data shows Dhaka Division as the hardest hit, recording 39,127 suspected cases, 7,015 confirmed infections, and 232 deaths. Chattogram Division follows with 14,030 suspected cases and 47 fatalities. Other divisions reported suspected cases as follows: Barishal 7,977; Rajshahi 7,183; Khulna 6,137; Sylhet 4,353; Mymensingh 3,745; and Rangpur 1,614.
Hospital data indicates that 68,934 suspected patients have been admitted since 15 March, including 878 new hospitalisations in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, 65,275 patients have been discharged following treatment, with 982 discharged in the past day.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and urge timely vaccination and hospital care to curb the spread of the disease.
