Omera Renewable Energy Limited has signed an agreement with the Bangladesh Bridge Authority to install solar systems in the service areas of the Padma Bridge.
The initiative to promote renewable energy was formalised through a contract signed at the Bridge Authority’s conference room on Sunday.
The agreement is valued at Tk 23,58,87,067.50 (approximately Tk 23.58 crore). The project will involve the installation of solar systems in three service areas of the Padma Bridge, with a total energy production capacity of 6,033 kWp.
According to the feasibility study conducted by the Infrastructure Development Company Limited, Service Area-1 will generate 1,966 kWp, Service Area-2 will produce 2,948 kWp, and Service Area-3 will contribute 1,119 kWp.
The project is scheduled for completion by March 14, 2026. The solar systems will be connected to the national grid through a net metering system, allowing the energy produced to offset electricity bills, leading to significant cost savings.
This initiative is aligned with the government’s renewable energy goals under the Renewable Energy Policy of Bangladesh 2025, which aims to meet 20 percent of the country’s electricity demand from renewable sources by 2030 and 30 percent by 2040.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Bridge Division and the Bangladesh Bridge Authority.
